Luc Ronchin Tournament Lille 13-14 March 2010 - Final
The Welsh had defeated England LX after the first semi final, which also ended in a 0-0 result and a penalty flick decider, leaving the final to be contested by two teams which know each other well. Once again, the final was a tightly fought encounter, though the beginning of the game was marked by a succession of errors from both sides, nerves obviously playing a big part.
The game settled into a dour, midfield battle, with Welsh danger man Kavanagh well marshalled by the Scottish defence but with Thistles mainly on the back foot. It was looking increasingly as if the tournament would have to be settled by yet another penalty flick competition when the Welsh struck from a short corner after Downie's over-ambitious crossfield pass was intercepted by the Welsh. Scottish Thistles put all they had into the last five minutes but the Welsh defence stood firm to see out the match and win the tournament for the second year in succession.
