Scotland fielded an over 60s team in the Grand Masters Tournament and an over 65s team in the Great Grand Masters Tournament - the first time the over 65s had participated at World level.
Both Scottish teams finished in fifth place in the World Championships held in exhausting conditions in Hong Kong.
The over 60s champions were England; Australia took the honours in the over 65s competition.
Grand Masters: Australia, England, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Scotland, South Africa
Great Grand Masters: Australia, England, Germany, Japan, Scotland
Scotland Grand Masters were drawn with Germany, Hong Kong and South Africa in the pool but came out with only a draw against South Africa at the end of the group stage, condemning them to play off for places 5-9. They went on to win all three of their remaining matches to finish in a secure fifth place.
The Great Grand Masters side played all the other countries, plus guest team Australia Senior Grand Masters, during the first round of their tournament. They emerged with only a win against Japan, plus a scoreless draw in the match against Australia Over 70, and beat Japan again in the 5th/6th place play off.
